Good for the Soul

Camping, as many of you know is not for the faint of heart... especially with littles.  That is precisely why our family and friends have chosen to instead adopt a slightly less stressful version of the activity and go "cabin-ing."  A nice, comfortable bed, a large  overhead fan, running water and a full size bathtub make for a more manageable experience in my book.  We headed "up north" this past weekend to a sweet little town called, get this, Friendship with our friends who have access to a nice cabin in the woods.  It was our second annual trip so we knew what to expect for the most part; dirt, boat rides, more dirt, camp fires, S'mores and lots of fun!  The only addition to the equation this year was our sweet Joshie; who did really well for his first time! Though it was a short get-away, we soaked up as much fun as we could.  The kids had a blast!  Being silly and playing in the dirt/sand were among the favorites. Two camp fires, a trip to the beach, the new Shopko, a short run with my girls, and a pleasant and rather memorable boat ride (Ahem~ Ms. Jenna;) and LOTS of great food was had all within less that 48 hours! It seems there is something about lots of fresh air and friends that is just plain good for the soul. One more check off the ol' bucket list I say!
Daddy and Caleb enjoying our boat ride---talking like the fish I believe...

In other news, Carlo and I celebrated our 5th anniversary late last month!  We decided to leave the kids at home with my parents and take the day to roam and explore.  Our first stop was Picnic Point in Madison. We shared a lovely little fruit salad and some cheese and wine.  Afterwards we headed to Memorial Union on Campus to people watch and enjoy nice conversation by the lake.  It was so refreshing and again, just plain good for the soul.

Right now the boys are sleeping like angels and I am listening to the rain fall on the skylights above my head....life is good. I am looking forward (sort-of) to two 5K runs at the end of the month...one that will end with me covered in mud, the other lots of brightly colored powder!  The pics should be nice. Stay tuned.
