July Zoo trips and August entertainment

The last couple of weeks in July we had a blast spending some quality time with family. We first got the opportunity to meet some of Carlo’s family in Chicago for a couple of fun-filled days of zoo animals, food and lots of smiles! We all met at the Chicago zoo that Monday and had a blast watching the kids enjoy each other. Rachel and Josiah, Caleb’s cousins he met for the first time, (me too for that matter;) took Caleb under their sweet, loving wings and cared and loved on Caleb like they had known each other forever. It was the cutest thing! After some more priceless memories made at a local Peruvian restaurant and later the Field Museum, we headed back home with our hearts filled with joy! We love you Tia Martha, Tio Ken, Sarah, Greg and the Brace family; we can’t wait to see you all again soon!

The following Monday our long awaited trip to the Milwaukee zoo with my immediate family, finally materialized. Aaden and Caleb had a blast seeing the monkeys, elephants, penguins and giraffe’s . Both boys did so well! I especially enjoyed the relaxing mid-day picnic in the shade. After our sun-soaked, memory- making day, we all headed back to Sun Prairie (minus grandpa) and got re-energized a bit with some pizza. The next day Mom, Aaron, Jessica, Aaden, Caleb and I headed to the Aquatic Center. The weather was perfect and the company even better. The boys once again enjoyed time together. Grandma was in heaven while splashing around with the boys, sometimes while they clinged to her squealing with excitement. Later that afternoon, we met Carlo for a light dinner at Ella’s Deli topped off with some refreshing ice cream. I couldn’t have planned a better finale to our wonderful time together!

As we turned the page of our calendar to August I felt compelled to soak up what time we have left of summer. Our care-free days at the beach are numbered, so I decided to not worry about getting things done around the house…OK for the most part. Carlo and I did spend all of last Saturday clearing out space in the new nursery and reorganizing and cleaning the office/craft room in the basement, but aside from that I made a decision to just live in the moment and enjoy this month as much as possible without worrying about what comes the 1st of September, and then later in December ;)
This past Friday our new neighbor friends accompanied us to the PB&J event down on the mall on campus for the annual PBS open house. It was pure craziness, with every stroller, momma and baby in a 20 mile radius all packed into a rather small space. We did however, get to listen to Mr. Steve sing some silly songs and see Martha from Martha Speaks and the Cat in the Hat. After zigzagging through the madness, we made our way to the Union for an early lunch and some ice-cream. Caleb even got to have his own cone, I’ve never seen a happier kid. Even though he ended up looking a little like a smurf, with Blue Mood ice cream all over his face, I kept telling myself to live in the moment and remember a little sticky ice cream never hurt anyone.
The goal for the remainder of the summer is to capture as many of those moment as possible. I’ve been thinking a lot about the fact that Caleb won’t be the only little one around for very much longer and I want to enjoy him as much as heavenly possible before the new baby rocks our world. PS. we find out if Caleb will have a baby sister or brother this coming Monday the 8th….I plan on posting the news on FB so keep an eye out for that.

May the rest of your summer be blessed and may you delight in every moment.
